Starting a Law Firm? A Do and Don’t

by Sara Crocker on March 19, 2012

Siddhartha H. Rathod and Qusair Mohamedbhai, partners at Rathod | Mohamedbhai LLC, recently offered their Dos and Don’ts of starting a law firm at a “Small Firms, Big Success” CLE. Solo in Colo caught up with them to hear what they think are the top Do and Don’t.

Learn from them so you don’t run into the same pitfalls:

Do start planning early. You want to be up and running on day one. That may mean giving yourself a year before you open for business.

Don’t be alone. Have a network of attorneys you can bounce ideas off of.

Hi Qusair and Siddhartha, excellent comments for your Five Minute Mentor post. I wholeheartedly agree with the “don’t go it alone” reminder. I consider myself very lucky to be a member of three active sections of the CBA, and whenever I encounter a difficulty, I know who I can call. Thanks also for offering your business plan and other forms to other solos! I know new solos in particular, along with those of us interested in keeping things fresh, really appreciate your offer and encouragement. Keep up the good work.
